What is 'Remanufacturing'?

A remanufactured engine is one that is built to original equipment
specifications using components from used engines. However, while most of the
parts in a remanufactured engine some from an old engine, they are so thoroughly
checked, cleaned, processed and machined that their performance and appearance
is no different from a new part. ‘Remanufactured’ engine should not be confused
with a ‘reconditioned’, ‘exchanged’, ‘rebuilt’, ‘repaired’ or ‘replacement’
engine. This is because reconditioned et al engines are not subjected to
re-machining or major replacements of parts or restoration of all fits and
clearances at the level of ISL precision remanufactured engines are.
In fact, as the global store of natural mineral resources are depleting, prices
of steel going up and a general consciousness to save the environment spreading
across the automotive industry, more and more car producers are building their
engines by remanufacturing components such as cylinder blocks,
cylinder heads
and con-rods. In fact, if your car engine breaks down and you ask for a ‘new’
engine from the original equipment provider, you will certainly be provided with
a ‘remanufactured engine’ instead of a ‘newly manufactured engine’ and because
you did not opt for an independent producer, you will be paying a premium just
for the branding.

The ultimate form of recycling
Remanufacturing is often hailed as the ultimate form of recycling as it not only
helps conserve energy and raw materials but also reduces air pollution and the
incidence of scrap heaps in landfill spaces. Scientists have shown that the
yearly energy savings of remanufacturing world wide equals the electricity
generated by five nuclear power plants or 10,774,000 barrels of crude oil
(corresponding to a fleet of 233 oil tankers). Recent research has also shown
that a remanufactured engine saves 55kilogram of steel and 8.3 kilograms of
aluminum along with reducing emissions of carbon dioxide by 565 kilogram, carbon
monoxide by 6.09 kilogram, nitrogen dioxide by 1.01 kilogram and sulphur dioxide
by 3.985 kilogram. Thus remanufacturing is certainly one of the answers to
saving our environment from going under.
Ivor Searle takes its green initiative very seriously. We try to use at least
95% of our ‘core’ (used) engines leaving very little for scrap. Rest assured, we
replace those parts which do not meet our standards to retrieve through processing with
new parts so that the quality of our products are never compromised. However, we
make sure our waste is minimized and we painstakingly purge our refuse while
keeping a close watch on the amount we throw away each month. Our products are
made in a clean and well organized environment that meets the requirements set
by local municipal councils more than adequately.
